How is the Oklahoma tax credit calculated for each child?
Each child's credit is the smaller of two numbers: the maximum for your household's income tier, and the school's tuition and fees after any school scholarship or discount.
Income is the parents' combined federal AGI from the second preceding tax year. A household receiving SNAP, TANF or SoonerCare/SoonerSelect when it applies qualifies for the $7,500 maximum.
Does the credit change with the child's grade?
No. Unlike programs in some other states, Oklahoma's credit depends on household income and the school's charges, not on grade level, from pre-K at age 4 through grade 12.
Is the credit guaranteed if I apply?
No. The program has an annual cap, and applications are processed by priority and then in order received, so applying early in the window matters.
For 2026-27 the Tax Commission reported $277,326,263 authorized and $264,788,333 approved for standard applications as of September 3, 2026.
