When is the Oklahoma tax credit paid to the school?

Starting with the 2026-27 school year, the Tax Commission's rules say the full credit is paid by August 30 of the school year, as a warrant made out to the taxpayer and mailed to the school on the application.

For 2025-26 the credit was split into two payments, due by August 30, 2025 and January 15, 2026.

Why does applying in the first 60 days matter?

The first 60 calendar days are the priority period: applications from households at or below $150,000 are reviewed first, then families who received the credit the year before, before anyone else.

In 2026 the Tax Commission noted that approvals for non-priority applicants would begin May 16, 2026, after the priority period that began with the March 16 opening.

What if my child changes schools after approval?

Submit a school change notification on OkTAP so the check goes to the new school; adjustments and changes are available from July 1 through December 31 of the school year, and the receiving school submits new enrollment verification.

If you don't redirect it before the check is issued, you are responsible for collecting the check from the original school.

Which income year will the 2027-28 application use?

It uses federal AGI from the second preceding tax year, which for an application filed in spring 2027 is your 2025 return.
