Which Oklahoma City-Area Private Schools Take the Tax Credit? A Count by Area

109 of the 122 private schools in our three-county directory appear on the Oklahoma Tax Commission's Parental Choice Tax Credit list dated September 3, 2026. Every Catholic school is on it. Of the 13 that are not, 7 are programs whose records end at kindergarten or earlier.

How many Oklahoma City-area private schools are on the tax credit list?

The Tax Commission's participating-school file dated September 3, 2026 lists 109 schools in Oklahoma, Cleveland and Canadian counties, out of 257 statewide.

We built our directory of 122 metro schools by merging that file with OSDE's Lindsey Nicole Henry approved list and the federal Private School Survey, matching records by name, street number and city in code and checking the close calls by hand. The credit list is the one that matters most for families, because a school that is not on it cannot issue the Enrollment Verification Number you need to apply. You can filter the full list on our school directory.

Where in the metro are the listed schools concentrated?

Edmond, Norman and north Oklahoma City have the most private schools in our directory, while the areas where every school we found is on the credit list are South OKC & Capitol Hill; Southwest OKC & Moore; and Midwest City, Del City & the Tinker Corridor.

The counts below use the ZIP code on each school's record. LNH is the special-needs scholarship administered by OSDE.

The southwest corridor along SW 119th and SW 134th stands out for density: a run of small Christian schools and early-learning centers, and every one we found is on the credit list. See the Southwest OKC and Moore page for the full list.

Which schools are not on the list, and why?

13 schools in our directory are not on the September 2026 credit file, and 7 of them are preschool or kindergarten programs known to us only from the federal survey.

The records cannot tell us why a school is missing. Some possibilities: it is not accredited by an association the State Board approves, it has not completed the annual OkTAP registration, it serves children younger than the credit's starting age of 4, or it has closed or changed names since the federal survey (2021-22 or 2023-24 data). One missing record is the Midtown campus of the Academy of Classical Christian Studies, whose main Hefner Road campus is listed. If a school you like is not listed, ask it directly before you plan around the credit.

What the credit list is, and what it is not

The list is the Tax Commission's record of accredited private schools registered to issue Enrollment Verification Numbers; it is not a rating, an endorsement or a complete census of private schools.

Being listed tells you a school has shown proof of accreditation and registered for the year. It does not tell you tuition, whether seats are open, or how a school handles discounts, which matter because the credit is figured on tuition after school aid. It also does not replace the LNH list: a school can be on one and not the other. In our directory, 56 schools are on both, and one LNH-approved school is not on the credit file.

Why are so many listed schools missing from the federal survey?

57 schools on the metro credit list do not appear in the federal Private School Survey we used, which reflects 2023-24 responses.

Many of them are early-learning centers and new small schools, such as seven locations with Primrose School in the name and an Acton-model academy in Choctaw. Because the credit starts at pre-K for 4-year-olds, accredited preschools have a reason to register. We list these schools with the fields the state publishes. They do not get full profile pages until we can confirm grades and enrollment, which keeps thin pages off the site. Schools can read how to join the list or claim their listing.
